The 2020 F-TYPE Redesign

May 31st, 2019 by

The Jaguar F-TYPE has, since launch, been one of my express favorite vehicles; from the standard models on first release, to the SVR monster designed with limited production, the F-TYPE just has something special about it not found in many vehicles. A passion to the design, and a ferocity in the drivability that “feels” as if it’s unrivaled. Yet, coming up on almost 7 years since initial release of the F-TYPE, and other than a few minor alterations, the vehicle itself has more or less been the same since launch. But that’s about to change with the upcoming release of the 2020 F-TYPE.

For the exterior, known for its  aggressive styling, Jaguar is looking to redesign the whole front end with better accented, thinner headlamps, and large side grilles flanking the central grille. Meanwhile, the rear taillights and bumper may also see some restyling, bringing the vehicle into the modern age; current spy shots are unclear though, as Jaguar has the prototype completely under wraps. And other developments may continue to change, as although the spy shots would indicate the cabin is the same, rumor has it that the F-TYPE will look to move into the 2+2 seating arrangement, challenging other similar small, sports cars.

Meanwhile, the interior is expected to receive a complete redesign with styling and concepts pulled from both the Jaguar I-PACE and redesigned XE. This includes a much more modern, accessible infotainment and climate control system, and updated steering wheel controls for better hands-free access to your vehicle. In addition to the changes in style and design, Jaguar is expected to utilize much higher quality plastics, rubbers, and other materials on the interior, ensuring customer comfort is at a level expected of a brand like Jaguar.

Finally, the engine options are seeing quite a few changes: Replacing the old supercharged V6, which admittedly was very fun, with options for either a turbocharged or hybrid straight-six, Jaguar is looking to move away from supercharging to more power-efficient drive capabilities. However, the V8 is expected to still be available for all your horsepower needs.
